MDC Awarded the New U.S. Embassy Annex Building Project

Once again, MDC proved to be one of the top construction companies in the country after it was awarded a contract to construct the New U.S. Embassy Annex Building. Undergoing a competitive bidding process and a rigorous evaluation system, MDC was chosen from among many other large international firms to handle the construction of this big project.
Making way for the modernization of the different facilities, the new compound will boast of a new Consular Public Services Building which will feature a large indoor waiting area for the public, as well as the addition of new service windows for passport and other applications. There will also be more windows for the processing and delivery of services to Americans, as well as Filipino citizens who qualify for Veterans Administration and Social Security Administration benefits. The Seafront Compound will also have larger offices, as well as a state-of-the-art medical clinic for veterans. Geared towards the improvement of services to the public and strengthening the close ties between the United States and the Republic of the Philippines – this $119 million Facility Improvement Project is one of the largest undertakings of the U.S. Department of State this year.

Two Groundbreaking Ceremonies were held earlier this year. The Initial Groundbreaking was held last June 30, 2008 at the Chancery in Manila which was witnessed by government officials, US Embassy officials, as well as our very own Ayala and MDC officials. More prominent personalities of those who attended were Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim, U.S. Ambassador Kristie Kenney, Secretary Francisco Benedicto of the Department of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Jaime Ayala, and MDCs very own Management Committee headed by CEO Raul M. Irlanda. The second groundbreaking was held on September 18, 2008 at the Seafront Compound.
Work on this major project has already begun and is expected to be completed in 2011. This project is another milestone for the company - a testimony to MDCs 34-year legacy of giving quality service to its clientele, building a better future and improving the life of the Filipino!
